Michael Lacey is an American born mathematician, who was born in the year 1959 and took his education very seriously especially in the field of mathematics where he specialized in. He went ahead to receive his Ph. D in the year 1987 from the Illinois University at Urbana-Champaign where he was directed and supervised by Walter Philipp.
His Ph. D was in probability in Banach spaces, where he was able to solve a problem in the law of iterated logarithm. Later on, he was able to work on other various fields that included ergodic theory, harmonic analysis as well as probability that all went a long way to cementing his skills at the subject of mathematics.
Michael Lacey would later on join the Louisiana State University where he worked and furthered his knowledge in mathematics. Michael Lacey also held a position at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where together with Walter Philipp they were able to provide the proof of the central limit theorem.
This was great to the field of mathematics as it meant a lot and the future was bright with this kind of brains. Michael Lacey’s dedication to mathematics saw him hold a position at the Indiana University where he received a Postdoctoral Fellowship in National Science Foundation.
He would not just let his time pass without engaging in a challenging project and while at Indiana University, he started to study the bilinear Hilbert transform. It was then that Michael and Christoph Thiele were able to solve this transform in the year 1996 and they did not go unrecognized as they were awarded the prestigious Salem Prize.
